DODATKOWE INFORMCJE:
Beyond Borders
It aims to support participants in developing a better understanding of a fast-changing market, strengthening the long-term production structures in their countries, creating new opportunities for exchange between European and African professionals as well as highlighting the role of international co-production.
Approche
The main objectives of the programme are:
- To develop and strengthen the practice of creative producing.
- To set up a network of independent operators and encourage the co-production and circulation of European and African films in each other’s territories.
- To familiarise producers with the legal framework of co-production of films between Europe and Africa.
- To support cultural diversity through connecting production and distribution in Europe and developing countries.
- To support exploitation of new digital technologies to initiate low budget production in both European and developing countries.
The objectives are implemented through intensive training with experienced professionals, lecturers, utilizing case studies and one-to-one sessions during the workshop as well as online consultancy.
The original and innovative scope and shape of this proposal offers creative producer training to Europeans and Africans on an equal footing – this is a productive basis for exchange and for the development of networks of creative producers around the world.
Selection
Ten producers, five from Europe and five from Africa, who are developing feature film projects (fiction or documentary), will be selected on the basis of an objective assessment of their project proposals and their profiles with regard to geographical and cultural balance.
Tunisian Workshop
The workshop will take place during 2010 with an extensive session in Tunisia in June. Project support and training in all areas is undertaken by practitioners and international experts, both from the north and the south.
The workshop is focused on :
- Creative Producing
Better understanding of the weaknesses and strengths of their scripts and expectations of the audiences from different parts of the world (we will examine important differences of perception between European and southern audiences) as well as market trends. - Budgeting, Finance and Post-production
Systems of finance and co-production. Legal aspects. Rights and negotiation. Understanding and management of contracts in relation to knowledge of international legislation with cases from specific countries most likely to become co-production partners. - Key Aspects of the Aesthetic Value involved in Production and Post-production
Music, photography, sound, acting, editing and mixing, as well as the technical and business operations involved at this stage of the production process are crucial. - Role of the ‘pitch’
In developing and marketing projects. - Distribution, Exhibition, Marketing and Promotion
It is critical that the target groups/participants think through marketing from the earliest stage of a project and fully understand the realities of the international, regional and local markets.
We will strive to combine the integrated approach of creative and business elements of production. This holistic approach is crucial to a better exchange between film-makers and audiences from different countries.
